The Department of Pulmonology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary diseases
and disorders such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, bronchial asthma, interstitial lung
disease, pulmonary vascular diseases, lung infections, tuberculosis, and nontuberculus
mycobacteria (NMT) lung disease. Intensive treatment for critical patients is provided at the
Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for Internal Medicine, and consultation is provided on life-prolonging
treatments for patients with chronic lung diseases. There is also a pulmonary lab (lung function
test, pulmonary rehabilitation therapy and bronchoscopy) in operation for inpatients and
outpatients.
A clinic for early discovery of lung cancer has been opened, as part of CNUH’s efforts to ensure
early-stage diagnosis and treatment. Advanced procedures such as fluorescent endoscopy and
photodynamic therapy are also being carried out for lung cancer detection and treatment. Cancer
conferences are held on a regular basis for pulmonologists to discuss the process of lung cancer
diagnosis and treatment with other specialists as a way to seek optimum treatment methods.
